About our Teak

We only buy certified, 100% legal Indonesian (not Burmese) Teak

The manufacturing process of our teak furniture begins with selecting only the highest quality, premium teak logs. While there are many sources for low quality, inexpensive teak, there is only one source for teak of the quality that we require. We purchase all of our teak from Indonesian plantations on the island of Java managed by the Government Reforestation Council, know as Perum Perhutani. This agency has a strict certification and chain of custody system to control all legal teak logging activities. By requiring the purchase of only legal logs, we help to support the policy of continuous replanting which ensures both a sustained yield and the protection of the local ecology.

We are still amazed that some retailers continue to boast of selling Burmese teak. We will never knowingly participate in any venture that supports the Burmese teak trade. Just follow this Google link for Burmese Teak and see for yourself why we feel so strongly. Not only is it bad for their ecology, it's horrible for their people! So why is it still sold? Simply put - greed. It's cheaper to buy from unscrupulous sources rather than go thru the certification process and buy legal teak from a government approved agency.

About our factory

Our factory is one of the best production facilities in Indonesia. Our machines are expertly maintained and kept in premium running condition. This means that parts are consistent and made without flaw. As you view the pictures below, take note of the general condition of the factory. It is neat, orderly and clean. We operate within a culture of systematic processes. This ensures products that are the best made possible. Every machine is staffed by a set of operators dedicated only to that machine, thereby creating an expert. All workers are taught how to read construction drawings and continually refer to them throughout the entire process. Fully machined parts mean absolute accuracy. This is critical in constructing furniture components. Hand made or semi-machined furniture may have a crafty appeal, but we would rather build furniture to last decades.
